I love this time of year. The days start getting shorter and more brisk (in theory; it is 90° today!). Cider mills open and serve eager customers, myself included obviously, fresh apple cider and sugared donuts. Long neglected sweaters, flannels, and boots get pulled out and loved again.
Fall is also one of my favorites times of year for photo shoots! The beautiful colors: the reds, oranges, and yellows of the trees; the deep green grass; and the blues and grays of the clouds. It speaks to me of hot tea and good books. Yeah, yeah, I know it’s technically not autumn until Monday. School started, okay? It’s autumn. That said, I had spent the morning taking an “autumn” photo shoot a few weeks ago.
Meet Jonathan and Sarah. We went to college years together years ago. Well, kind of: they had recently graduated and gotten married when I transferred in but they had stuck around to intern with Chi Alpha, a Christian college ministry. We didn’t really have a chance to get to know each other then, though, so I was really pleased when we crossed paths again at a friend’s wedding last summer.
When we saw each other at the wedding, their daughter was almost three and they were about to have their son. We didn’t get to talk much at the wedding, but made a point to reconnect after my youngest son was born. Our kids quickly became very dear friends (a deep blessing to this mama who is very thankful for Sarah’s friendship and knows that without happy kids, there’d be no chance).
This shoot was a lot of fun. Chloe was so excited about spending this time with me that she brought her own camera to take a pictures of me! I, sadly, don’t have it to show you, but it happened. She was also a great helper and snagged this great picture of her mama.
We spent some time walking around Heritage Park in Taylor: exploring the bridge, saying hello to the entire tribe of ducks that had taken over the lawn around the pond, and running around between the evergreen trees chasing bubbles.
I know getting family pictures is something they do every year, but I felt so honored and thankful that they choose me to capture these moments for them!
